Smart Grid Technologies
Modern energy grids leverage smart technologies to deliver cleaner energy and new insights to cut waste and costs. The American Association of Blacks in Energy follows 11 guiding principles to support smart grid initiatives.
Values
AABE recognizes the significance of smart grid technologies.
- We value smart grid technologies as lower-risk technologies that enhance
the performance of existing generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. - We value the smart grid technologies for conservation and load management as a consumer-friendly way to control electricity consumption.
- We value the participation of historically underserved communities in discussions on smart grid policy.
Supports
AABE helps to inspire the development of programs that advance smart grid technologies.
- We support the protection and privacy of data for customers serviced by smart grid technology operators.
- We support enhanced system performance and voluntary pricing approaches for customers serviced by smart grid technology operators.
- We support modernizing the electric grid through the use of smart grid technologies.
- We support lower and controlled energy costs for underserved communities serviced by smart grid technology operators.
- We support a safe and cost-effective adoption of smart grid technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of our nation’s power infrastructure.
- We support smart grid technologies that protect the nation’s energy grid from legitimate cybersecurity threats.
Promotes
AABE works to further the progress of smart grid initiatives. We promote training and deployment of smart grid technologies to potentially spur economic growth and job creation in underserved communities.
advocates
AABE takes action to create equitable smart grid solutions. We advocate for the support of smart grid technologies through tax credits and other incentives (e.g., loan guarantees and research programs) to the extent that these tools will help provide options to reduce consumer costs and enhance electric system reliability.
