Value Propositions

Policy Leadership

AABE proactively shapes national energy and environmental policy by advocating for inclusive solutions that reflect the concerns of all communities—particularly those traditionally left out of the conversation. Through informed engagement and impactful advocacy, AABE helps build a more equitable and prosperous energy future.

Community Engagement

We champion energy education and awareness at every level, working across the full spectrum of energy topics. AABE fosters active participation, bridges educational gaps, and strengthens relationships to ensure that all communities are informed, empowered, and equipped to engage in the energy transition.

Career & Professional Development

AABE invests in the next generation of energy leaders by creating unmatched opportunities for career growth and innovation. Through mentorship, networking, and programming, we support:

  1. Students (K–12 and college) via STEM initiatives
  2. Professionals seeking to expand their impact
  3. Entrepreneurs and small business owners aiming to scale their services in the energy industry

Together, we are building a more diverse, inclusive, and forward-looking energy workforce.

History

The idea of AABE was conceived in the mind of Clarke A. Watson of Denver, Colorado in the spring of 1977—several months before U.S. President Carter established the U.S. Department of Energy. Mr. Watson owned an energy-consulting firm, Watson Associates, a division of Westland Companies. AABE was officially incorporated as a non-profit corporation on December 1, 1977, and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. today.
