Building a Pipeline of Energy Talent
Since its founding in 1977, the AABE organization has been committed to creating pathways for talented minorities to enter STEM-related professions and the energy industry. Every year, the American Association of Blacks in Energy awards over $350K in scholarship money to high school seniors who want to pursue higher education in a STEM-related field.
AABE members work to ensure that the future pipeline of energy professionals is a diverse group of persons who are highly educated and informed concerning energy policy, execution, and impact. We strive to continue to ensure that all persons from different backgrounds are represented with excellence at the proverbial energy table.
We offer scholarships to high school students who plan to major in one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines. In addition to scholarships, our members are mentors to our scholarship recipients.
Black Energy Awareness Month
Every October, AABE celebrates Black Energy Awareness Month (BEAM), a dedicated period focused on education and professional development. Founded by Rodney J. Russell, the program involves chapters hosting a variety of events, such as workshops, panel discussions, and other activities aimed at engaging and informing the community.
Energy Education in Excellence
The Energy Education in Excellence is an activity, program or event where local chapter AABE members work with community schools and organizations to educate K-12 students about the energy industry and how they can be a part of this growing and dynamic field. Different chapters have other additional activities such as tutoring services and mentoring activities with college students. See your local chapter for more details.
Scholarships
We provide annual scholarships to encourage outstanding minority students who are working toward a higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to pursue careers in energy-related fields. Through our scholarship program, students who plan to major in science, mathematics, engineering and technology have the opportunity to receive scholarships on the local, regional and national level.
