Supplier Diversity

Energy organizations with more diverse suppliers benefit from increased innovation, higher quality products and services, and lower costs. The American Association of Blacks in Energy follows 11 guiding principles to enhance supplier diversity.

Values

AABE recognizes the significance of supplier diversity. We value the participation of historically underserved communities in discussions on supplier diversity policy.

Supports

AABE helps to inspire the development of programs that support supplier diversity.

  • We support the integration and alignment of supplier diversity programs with corporate
    and government procurement practices.
  • We support workforce development programs that serve the energy industry by facilitating access to training, education, and career counseling.

Promotes

AABE works to further the progress of supplier diversity initiatives.

  • We promote partnerships among public and private entities to increase opportunities for minority entrepreneurs and diverse suppliers.
  • We promote procurement and supply chain subcontracting language that supports partnerships between prime contractors and diverse suppliers in all products and services contracts.
  • We promote collaborative workforce development programs and the creation of business opportunities for minority entrepreneurs and diverse suppliers in the public and private domains.

advocates

AABE takes action to create equitable supplier diversity solutions.

  • We advocate for policies that promote fairness, inclusion, and increased opportunities for historically underserved, minority-owned businesses to participate in all facets of the capital and procurement supply chain.
  • We advocate for policies that facilitate diverse suppliers meeting federal, state,
and private (e.g., NMSDC) criteria to be certified as a minority business enterprise (MBE).
  • We advocate that corporations and governments develop a written supplier diversity plan and policy to clearly define the executive management commitment and measures for success.
  • We advocate for the strategic implementation of supplier diversity policies as a “business imperative” to promote brand enhancement, strengthen public policy, and increase revenue generation.
  • We advocate for the Utility Marketplace Access Partnership (UMAP) Strategy resolution to promote a supplier diversity policy in the United States.
