Renewable Energy

Wind, wave, hydro, tidal, biomass, geothermal, and solar are alternative sources of energy that are clean, accessible, affordable, and sustainable. The American Association of Blacks in Energy follows 13 guiding principles to support advancements in renewable energy

Values

AABE recognizes the significance of renewable energy.

  • We value an overall energy strategy that recognizes all sources of energy for meeting domestic energy and climate change challenges.
  • We value the participation of historically underserved communities in discussions on national renewable energy policy.

Supports

AABE helps to inspire the development of programs that support renewable energy.

  • We support policies for renewable portfolio standards that address local issues,
such as availability of renewable sources, transmission facilities for the interconnection and integration of renewables, and provide incentives for underserved consumers for new renewable energy technology development.
  • We support energy tax incentives for underserved communities, as well as the extension of all federal energy tax incentives, including the production tax credit (PTC), investment tax credit (ITC), investment tax grant (1603) and clean renewable energy bonds (CREBs).
  • We support programs that provide an equitable allocation of costs and benefits for renewable technologies, such as net metering, to underserved communities.
  • We support the development of both national and international renewable energy programs.
  • We support programs that balance the availability of renewable energy technologies with cost and expected environmental benefits.
  • We support resources to increase awareness, administration, access, and implementation of renewable energy programs in underserved communities.
  • We support infrastructure and technology enhancements to meet growing energy demands and maintain the reliability of renewable energy in remote locales.

Promotes

AABE works to further the progress of renewable energy initiatives.

  • We promote partnerships and collaboration among entities in the public and private domains to increase opportunities for minority entrepreneurs and diverse suppliers.
  • We promote the development of a sustainable renewable fuels industry, including liquids and gaseous fuels, insofar as it provides entrepreneurial opportunities for minorities, supports economic growth for minority farmers, enhances energy security, and addresses national environmental objectives.

advocates

AABE takes action to create equitable renewable energy solutions.

  • We advocate for partnerships and collaboration among public and private entities to increase opportunities for minority entrepreneurs and diverse suppliers.
